I can’t promise you a perfect birth, but I can promise you that this Hypnobirthing course will not be what you expect.
Let’s address some misconceptions;
it is not what you think
it is not a strange method of hypnosis
it can work with any pain-relief
it can be used alongside antenatal classes
it can be used in any labour setting
it is not just for the mother
To allow your body and mind to work during labour, you have to release any fear and tension. Hypnobirthing will teach you how to do this.
I teach the Katharine Graves Hypnobirthing (KGH) technique. KGHypnobirthing is a mixture of lots of different things to use during pregnancy and labour. Put together, these things make a very big difference. It is not prescriptive and can be used effectively whatever your birth outcome. KGHypnobirthing uses simple and logical elements such as relaxations, visualisations and breathing exercises alongside in-depth explanations of the physiology of birth to enable you to labour in a calm and effective way. It is something to do together with your birth partner and is designed to be a birth preparation method that is informative and enjoyable.

The name ‘Hypnobirthing’ is admittedly misleading but it’s become known as that now so we are slightly stuck with it! As a friend once said, perhaps it is better to think of it as ‘physio-birthing’. If you understand how your mind and body work together during the process of labour, you will know and understand the various sensations you will experience, and how as a team, with your birth partner, you can work together to birth your beautiful baby! It is a process that can be used with or without any pain relief, in any setting and with you and your baby at the centre of it. Many mothers use KGHypnobirthing for caesarean births, but it is equally successful as a tool to use at home.
The way I see it, you should prepare for birth like any other significant event in your life, be it a sporting endeavour, a job interview or simply an adventure. If you can give yourself time to calmly practise and understand the dance between body and mind, you will be in the best position possible to birth your baby.
Calm is key
Hypnobirthing gives parents the best chance of welcoming their baby in to the world in a calm and natural way. KGHypnobirthing babies are often said to be calmer, more contented and usually have very high Apgar scores. They also tend to feed and sleep very well as they have had a calm introduction to the world…a win win!
Preparation is vital
You wouldn’t turn up to run a marathon on the day without doing any training, or turn up for a concert without preparation… and birth shouldn’t be any different. If you can take a little bit of time to prepare and practice, you will be in the best position possible to birth your baby.
Knowledge is power
Hypnobirthing will teach you all you need to know about the medical interventions and processes that may take place during birth such as inductions, optimal cord clamping and membrane sweeps . You will learn the risks and benefits to all procedures so that you can make an informed choice, should you need to.
